Meet the team

Our Investment Strategy Group (ISG) is a team of highly experienced investment strategists and analysts. They’re the driving-force behind our investment recommendations and asset allocation strategies. The ISG undertakes in-house research across a diversified suite of asset classes. The team’s research draws on a wide range of views, including those from our domestic and global research partners and other well-respected external industry research suppliers. 

 

Sally Auld

CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER

Sally is the Chief Investment Officer at JBWere and leads the Investment Strategy Group, a team of investment specialists. She is responsible for views on the economic and policy outlook and works closely with JBWere's Asset Allocation team on setting the firm's Strategic Asset Allocation.

Sally joined JBWere in September 2020 from JP Morgan where she was Managing Director, Chief Economist and Head of Economic and Markets Research, Australia and New Zealand. Prior to this, Sally worked at ANZ and Credit Suisse and has over 20 years experience in financial markets. 

She is Deputy Chair of the Council of The Women’s College, Chair of the SCEGGS Darlinghurst Ltd. Board and a member of the Finance and Investments Committee for the Children’s Medical Research Institute and a member of the RBA Shadow Board.

Sally has a Bachelor of Economics with First Class Honours and the University Medal in Economics from the University of Sydney. She also holds a Masters of Economics degree and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Economics at Oxford University.

Glen Bertram

HEAD OF ASSET ALLOCATION

Glen joined JBWere in February 2020. He is responsible for asset allocation, is a senior member of the investment team and a key contributor to its macroeconomic and market insights and thought leadership. He has 20 years' experience in fundamental and systematic investment strategies within and across major asset classes. 

Glen has held a variety of founder and portfolio manager roles within the investment management industry. He co-founded a residential real estate securitisation and data indexing company in joint venture with Macquarie Bank. He was a portfolio manager with Swiss bank UBS, running fundamental discretionary portfolios across equity and equity-derivatives markets, and then with private investment management firms principally in the Australian market.

Glen has a Bachelor of Commerce with First Class Honours and a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours, both from the University of Sydney, where he was a University Medalist.

Aidan Kerr

HEAD OF AUSTRALIAN EQUITIES

Aidan is the Head of Australian Equities, responsible for leading a team of investment analysts and is the portfolio manager of JBWere’s Australian equities model portfolios. Aidan joined JBWere in February 2020 as a Senior Analyst covering the Global Consumer and Technology sectors before being promoted to his current role in May 2022.

He has 17 years professional experience spanning management consulting and corporate finance, with the better part of the past decade spent in global equities. Prior to JBWere, Aidan was an Investment Analyst at Magellan Financial Group covering the Global Healthcare and Consumer sectors and Antipodes Partners, where he was responsible for generating both long and short investment recommendations.

Aidan has a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours from the University of New South Wales.

Andrew Hudson

HEAD OF INTERNATIONAL EQUITIES

Andrew joined JBWere in 2011 and is responsible for international equity strategy and is portfolio manager of the JBWere International portfolio. He has over 20 year's industry experience.

Prior to joining JBWere, Andrew was an equity Portfolio Manager at a major Melbourne family office, selecting international and domestic equities and managed funds. He also managed a commodity derivative portfolio at AWB, and worked as a macroeconomist at the Commonwealth Treasury, focusing on international economics, forecasting and portfolio construction.

Andrew has a Masters Degree in Economics from Australian National University and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment.

Laurie Conheady

HEAD OF FIXED INCOME

Laurie joined JBWere in 2009 and is responsible for fixed income strategy and portfolio construction. Laurie has more than 23 years of global experience in fundamental and relative value credit research.

Laurie was formerly with Standard & Poors (S&P) and in the years immediately prior to joining JBWere, was with BMO Capital Markets, the investment banking arm of the Bank of Montreal. In his time at BMO Capital Markets, Laurie was ranked Canada’s number 1 corporate debt analyst for pipelines and utilities.

Laurie has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Business Administration from the Melbourne Business School.

Chris Karapalidis

HEAD OF INVESTMENT FUNDS RESEARCH

Chris Karapalidis joined JBWere in 2018 as a Consultant within the Managed Research team. In July 2022 he was appointed into the Head of Investment Funds Research and leads the team responsible for identifying high quality externally managed strategies across all asset classes and the construction of JBWere's multi-asset model portfolios. Previously, Chris spent 7 years with MLC’s ThreeSixty Research team which provided fund research services to JBWere between 2014-18.

Chris commenced his finance career in 2004 with the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority reviewing superannuation funds before moving to Aviva Research in 2007 where he was responsible for investment fund analysis on the Navigator Investment Service which was subsequently taken over by MLC.  

Chris has over 18 years of industry experience with a Bachelor of Economics and Finance (Honours) from RMIT and Master of Finance from Kaplan.

Gillian Gordon

HEAD OF ALTERNATIVE INVESTMENTS & RESPONSIBLE INVESTING

Gillian joined JBWere in May 2019 and is Head of Alternative Investments and Responsible Investing. As Head of Alternatives, Gillian leads the Alternatives strategy, investing selection and execution across Private Equity, Private Debt, Real Assets including Infrastructure & Property, Renewables, Natural Resources and Hedge Funds. Gillian also leads the further expansion of JBWere’s approach to Responsible Investing spanning ESG, ethical/impact investing, and stewardship of capital. Prior to joining JBWere, Gillian held senior multi-asset global investment and structuring roles on trading floors, working across Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, for Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) and Bank of Montreal (BMO) Capital Markets. Gillian was also the global structuring sustainability lead for capital markets in both SCB and BMO. Gillian’s roles have included leading sales and structuring for SCB’s Alternative Asset Group (AUM +USD 2bio) in London, in addition to leading and designing multi-asset investment solutions across Fixed Income, Equities, FX, Alternatives, Credit, Commodities and Responsible Investments (RI) for Institutional, Private Bank and High Net Worth clients.

Gillian has over 20 years of industry experience with a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business (Management) from the University of Queensland. She is a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) Australia and a Graduate Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Kim Pham

HEAD OF MARKETS GROUP

Kim Pham is the Head of Markets Group at JBWere, where she is responsible for JBWere’ s Markets capability, leading the sales and trade execution function as well as syndicate capital markets across asset classes. Kim’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce (Liberal Studies) from the University of NSW and Harvard Business Schools Executive Education Program on Women’s Leadership. She is RG146 qualified, holds her Accredited Derivatives Adviser Accreditation and is a qualified Australian Financial Markets Accredited professional. Prior to JBWere, she worked for JANA Asset Consulting, the Australian Financial Review and in National Australia Bank’s Insurance and Asset Management divisions. Kim is a member of the Markets & Investments Group (MIG) Leadership team at JBWere, oversees JBWere’s Commitments Committee and is Co-Chair of JBWere’s Inclusion & Diversity Council..
